Andrew Shaw is a professional singer and music historian, and is happy to be joining the Chestnut Street Singers for their 2019-2020 season. Born and raised in the greater Philadelphia area, Andrew attended Temple University where he studied voice with Lawrence Indik and Marcus Deloach, as well as history/musicology with Stephen Willier, Steven Zohn, and Michael Klein. Andrew has been an active soloist and choral singer in the Philadelphia area for the past 15 years, singing with such ensembles as the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, PhilHarmonia, Opera Philadelphia, Concert Operetta Theater, and Singing City. As a historian, Andrew’s research focuses on the role of song in the construction of identities. He has presented his research at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as at Temple University’s Graduand Forum and François Couperin Symposium.
